The #15 LSU Tigers (0-0, 0-0 Away) will visit the Mississippi State Bulldogs (1-0, 0-0 Home) on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville, Mississippi. The game will televise at 9:15 PM ET on ESPN. The current odds list LSU as a 5-point favorite with the over/under set at 50.5.
LSU had to cancel their opener due to heavy rain and lightning against McNeese State. This is heartbreaking for the Tigers as this was a sure win and a great opportunity to click with one another. Brandon Harris will get the start at quarterback after beating junior Anthony Jennings. Neither quarterback is stellar so the Tigers will rely on Leonard Fournette, who set a school rushing record with 1,034 yards last year. The Tigers are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games in September.
Mississippi State is coming in off a 34-16 win over Southern Mississippi. Dak Prescott went 22 of 38 for 237 yards and two touchdowns in the game. He also led all running backs with 72 yards on 8 carries and a touchdown. Brandon Holloway had 51 yards on seven carries. Fred Ross had 75 yards on five receptions while Gus Walley and Justin Johnson both had touchdown catches. The Bulldogs are 7-3 ATS in their last ten home games and 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a win.
My Pick: Mississippi State +5
I am going to side with the home team. LSU needed that home opener to give both quarterbacks some playing time to see where they are at. The Tigers will rely on their running game to keep them in this game but I think the Bulldogs have a chance for an upset. The Bulldogs do not have a great offense but I think they will play well enough in this game to get the cover.
